Community engagement & insights to take forward

Community engagement

We ran a series of engagement events in Autumn 2021 with local businesses and residents to align on the vision of Gourley Triangle, and to gather insights on what the community would want to see proposed. This is to ensure that any future plans are shaped directly by all individuals involved.

Engagements included:

  • One-to-one sessions speaking with each individual business owner about their needs and assessing whether the new site would be suitable; as well as starting to sketch out a Business Retention and Relocation strategy
  • Two engagement days where we asked residents their thoughts about what amenities are most needed, and assessments for how we can integrate their needs of residents into the final plan
  • A series of creative engagement events including a walk around the site & a workshop to discuss inclusivity in the masterplan design
  • A series of door knocking sessions where we listened to the concerns of people working on the site. We ascertained whether they wished to remain on site and heard their aspirations for the area
  • Two business breakfasts at Ebenezer College, to keep business and property owners informed about the project and listen to further insights that business owners have to offer

We are also continuing to hold focus groups regularly to discuss the next phase of the project with businesses / residents, so that the project remains people-centred.

Insights to take forward

From initial engagements, the local community highlighted the need to push for a high-quality design, while guaranteeing a diverse and inclusive approach. Based on this, we have taken those insights and developed plans for the site based on your feedback.

We want to check that we've captured your views and that you agree with the key priorities to take forward in the below section.

Views and key priorities observed

The key priorities that came up in the discussion were:

These priorities are summarised into 3 key themes below, and for each one we have highlighted how these priorities have been listened to in developing the plans for the Gourley Triangle.

1. Community of Making and Creating2. Character and Heritage3. Public and Green Spaces

Collating the themes above, the drawing below shows an illustrative plan of what the site could be like, please help us shape this by sharing your thoughts and ideas. For more details, please download the full consultations boards via the link below.
